“Valery Belokon’s Publishing House” Ltd. Was established in 31 March 1995. It became popular with the encyclopedia “Who is Who in Latvia”
released in 1996. The encyclopedia provides the biographies of about 10 thousand most well-known and popular persons in Latvia
representing the following sectors:
religion
“Who is Who in Latvia” was officially recognized by the Latvian Institute of Bibliography, and it received the status of
encyclopedic literature.
Proceeding from its experience of working with encyclopedias, the publishing house has started in 2000 another responsible
project — preparation of the new edition of “The Encyclopedia of Latvia”. The encyclopedia contains about 30 000 entries. All
entries are subjected to a thorough examination by the specialists-consultants.
At the end of year 2007 was published running edition of “The Encyclopedia of Latvia”, volume Nr. 4. From thus far published volumes, the new one is by far the biggest in terms of scale with wide range of information. The new edition of “The Encyclopedia of Latvia” consists of articles and references for Latvian words starting from LA till RO. Work on preparation of the last volume, Nr. 5, has already been started . Approximate date of issue is middle of the year 2009.
A similar edition was released in Latvia 30 years ago.
The edition is being prepared in close cooperation with the scientific organizations and best specialists. The encyclopedia
shall be the most complete source of information about the Latvian history, economy, culture, science, nature and other spheres
of life. The project of the publishing house was evaluated positively by the Board of the Latvian Cultural Fund, Presidium of
the Latvian Academy of Sciences and other scientific and cultural institutions.
